Mission Opportunities!

How can we help?

One of our many mission opportunities is Reelfoot Rural Ministries.  Mary Lou Wurth  sent this to us to consider.  They have many needs..do we have willing hands?

Reelfoot Rural Ministries continues to serve the people of Lake, Obion and Dyer Counties in West Tennessee, and Fulton  County in Western Kentucky. All ministries of the agency continue ot grow and we strive to meet the needs of hurting people. Thanks to the generous giving of many people we were able to help many families through the ministries of the agency.

The 2009 Toy Store was one of the largest ever! About 800 families with about 1700 children received toys. Just think how many toys were needed.  Each child received five to seven toys for a total of 8,500 to 11,900 toys! Susan Dozier, Toy Store Director/Daycare Director and I tried to determine how many toys RRM had given away in the history of RRM Toy Store. Laid end to end...well, let’s just say thousands of children have had a merrier Christmas because of caring people stepped out and gave. Thank each and every one of you that gave toys, senior gifts, or came and worked.

Reelfoot Rural Ministries needs volunteers. Consider coming for a day to help in the Thrift Store or food bank or arrange to bring a group for a work camp. Contact Michael Blake at RRM to volunteer or to arrange a tour of our facilities.

There’s always much to be done.. Can we count on your hands to help?

REDBIRD WORK CAMP TRIP      (Continued from page 3)

To see graces printed in bold red letters on the walls of the cafeteria, pictures of Jesus along the hallways and the Ten Commandments framed on the walls in the school was amazing. On Wednesday morning we attended Chapel at the school and were inspired by the witnessing of the students and teachers as they shared their faith journey.

Our team clipped over 5,000 coupons on a rainy afternoon which will assist the mission in purchasing a van or other needed equipment. We concluded our work week by painting the interior of a work camp dorm on site at the mission.

The meals, devotionals and fellowship we shared with other work camp teams across the country who were on site working that same week certainly added another dimension of fulfillment to our mission journey. We encourage you to visit Red Bird, embark on a work camp mission or support them financially with your mission dollars. Their mission includes a medical and dental clinic, a child care center, seniors center, thrift store, agriculture program, community outreach, school, and crafts store. Red Bird is a powerful witness for Christ in the heart of Appalachia.

Note: for more information, go to this website— http://www.rbmission.org for Red Bird Missions.  You’ll find great information on ways you can help.  You can sign up for the work camps.  You’ll be able to check out their on-line store; there’s lots of homemade items for sale there.  It also features how to send donations if you’d like.

For those of you going to the Assembly.. We have scarves made up as our “ID Tags”.  They’re beautiful and handmade!  And they’re $8.50. Please get your money to your District Treasurer that’s attending Assembly, or to a Conference Officer.
